You can have a festive and fun Halloween celebration without an overabundance of sugar. With just a few ingredients and a little creativity , you can make quick , healthy , and fun treats that kids of all ages can enjoy. Check out our ideas for treats your little ghouls and goblins will gobble right up! Candy Corn Fruit Cups: It’s easy to make this pretty but not-too-sweet treat for one! - In a short , clear glass , layer pineapple chunks , mandarin orange segments and whipped cream.
- Top with a piece of candy corn.
Banana Ghosts: They might look like ghosts , but you’ll get only cheers—no boos—when you serve this snack! - Cut a banana in half.
- Dip halves in white chocolate.
- Place a few chocolate sprinkles or chocolate chips for the eyes and mouth.
- Let them sit on a baking sheet in the refrigerator or freezer (depending on time) to let the chocolate set.
- If you don’t like bananas , you can also use whole strawberries (do not halve them) for this spooky snack.
Orange Pumpkins: These tiny pumpkins are cute and tasty! - Peel oranges or clementines.
- Stick a small celery stick in the center of each fruit for a stem.
Witch’s Hands: This snack is a fun way to incorporate some healthy whole grains. - Use non-latex gloves for this treat.
- Put a candy corn or almond in each fingertip (edible nails!) , and then fill the rest of the fingers and hand with air-popped popcorn.
- If you’d like , decorate the hands with spooky jewelry (like spider rings)!
Pizza Mummies: This snack or small meal has a few layers of good nutrition , like healthy grains and delicious dairy! - Slice a whole-grain English muffin in half.
- Spread tomato sauce on each half.
- Layer strips of low-fat mozzarella cheese across each half so it looks like a mummy.
- Add black olives for the eyes.
- Heat in the oven or microwave until the cheese is melted.
Halloween Snack Mix: Mix up a sweet and salty combination! - Choose one or more grains , like whole grain cereal , pretzels or popcorn.
- Choose a healthy fat , like peanuts , almonds , or pumpkin seeds.
- For sweetness , add dried fruit like raisins or cranberries , or bite-sized chocolate candies.
Roasted Pumpkin Seeds: Carving a jack-o’-lantern? Don’t throw away those seeds! - Scoop the seeds out of your pumpkin and clean them.
- Brush a little olive oil and your favorite seasonings onto the seeds. Not sure what seasonings to use? Try cinnamon and sugar for sweet and spicy flavor , or go savory with spices like paprika , garlic powder or Cajun seasoning. You can keep it simple with basic salt and pepper , too.
- Roast seeds in the oven until they are golden brown.
